The day I got the Big one
I started fishing when I was a young lad and through my teenage years I could be found spending days down the local river along with my mates. When I was 14 my uncle took me to Farmoor Reservoir and introduced me tofly fishing.
This was completely different to anything I had done before. He gave me my first fly rod, reel and some flies and proceeded to teach me the teqniques of casting. At first it was very hard tolearn, timing the rod and line was very difficult but over the years it became easier and a natural way of fishing.
Over the last few years i have had a dream of catching a 10 pound trout then at Christmas my dream came true.
My uncle and cousins booked into Rockbourne Trout Fishery, which has a number of spring fed lakes.I must have been fishing for about an hour when I changed my fly to a small daddy long legs and after the second cast I had a take which resulted in all the line on my reel flying off as the trout darted off down thelake.
I played the fish so that it came back to me and got my net ready but unfortunately the net was too small and the fish rolled out of it andsped off to the other side of the lake again. At this point I asked a fellow angler for help but his net was the same size as mine but he did manage to get fish in it but as he lifted fish up the pole of his net snapped and net and fish fell into lake, I dropped my rod and dived in grabbed net and fish and lifted my 12.8 pound rainbow trout out mission accomplished.
